Reinvigorating School Culture Through Play
MSAA Professional Development Workshop for All Educators, Administrators, Education Leaders, and Anyone Running a Staff Meeting |
Reinvigorating School Culture Through Play |
Educator burnout and declining mental health are leading to the loss of too many talented teachers. One of the most influential—yet often overlooked—factors contributing to this crisis is the climate and culture within our schools. As a school leader, you play a pivotal role in shaping an environment that either nurtures or undermines staff well-being and connection. This workshop explores how incorporating play into staff meetings and professional development sessions can transform your school culture. When leaders intentionally create opportunities for playful engagement, they foster a relaxed, energized atmosphere that enhances collaboration, builds trust, and promotes emotional wellness. Research shows that play stimulates the release of endorphins, reduces stress, and boosts overall energy. It also improves cognitive function, strengthens social bonds, and encourages creative problem-solving. As Dr. Stuart Brown, founder of the National Institute for Play, states: “The opposite of play isn’t work, it’s depression.” |
Participants will: · Understand the Connection: between school climate, educator well-being, and staff retention · Explore the Science of Play: behind play and its positive effects on adult mental health, cognitive function, and workplace relationships · Experience Playful Strategies: that can be integrated into staff meetings and professional development sessions. · Develop an Action Plan: for incorporating play into their leadership practices to foster a more positive and collaborative school culture. · Acquire Practical Tools: practical tools and resources to support the creation of a joyful, energized environment that encourages teacher engagement and longevity |
