Brains, Behavior, and Big Emotions:
A Paraprofessional’s Guide to Classroom Regulation

As a paraprofessional, you play a crucial role in supporting students' emotional and behavioral needs—but navigating big emotions in the classroom can be challenging.

This workshop will equip you with a deeper understanding of why students struggle with self-regulation, and how factors like stress, trauma, and executive functioning impact their behavior. By the time we wrap up, you'll have practical, ready-to-implement tools for cultivating strong and supportive relationships with your students; all while establishing healthy boundaries. This will empower you to foster a classroom environment where both academic learning and emotional development thrive together.

Workshop Goals/Objectives:

·         Equipping paraprofessionals with a foundational understanding of emotional regulation and its impact on student behavior

·         Strengthening paraprofessionals' ability to support teachers in maintaining a calm, structured learning environment

·         Identify key factors that contribute to emotional dysregulation, including stress, trauma, and executive functioning challenges.

·         Help recognize early signs of dysregulation and implement proactive strategies to prevent emotional escalations

·         Teach effective, research-backed de-escalation techniques for classrooms

Help understand the paraprofessional role in co-regulation and fostering
 self-regulation
